Administrator

With full access to all system settings, documents, and permissions, the Administrator is the highest-level user account in ERPNext. Despite the fact that System Managers are capable of handling the majority of administrative duties, such as managing permissions, creating users, and customising modules, this account has more authority.

Administrator access, however, depends upon the type of hosting you use

1. For Cloud-Hosted ERPNext Accounts (by Frappe Technologies):

  • Administrator login access is not granted to you.

  • This is a result of Frappe using shared servers to host numerous clients. Frappe keeps the admin credentials in order to guarantee data security and control.

  • For backend tasks like system updates, patches, and important fixes for all hosted accounts, Frappe uses the Administrator account.

  • By preventing security threats between several tenant accounts on the same server, this restriction helps in preserving server integrity.

  • Exception: A business may be given administrator access if it purchases a sizable user base and has a dedicated server.

2. Self-Hosted ERPNext Accounts (On-Premise):

  • The Administrator account is under your control if ERPNext is hosted on your own server or infrastructure.

  • All system configurations and settings are fully accessible to you.

  • Upgrades, server configurations, and even the core ERPNext code can be changed if necessary.

Note: Administrator access is deeper and reserved, either for the user in on-premise installations or for Frappe in cloud-hosted setups, whereas System Manager roles are enough for everyday operations and the majority of system modifications.
