Opportunity Type

Opportunity Type is the broad category or type of an opportunity, e.g., Sales, Support, Maintenance, Partnership, Consulting, etc., or any other business engagement type relevant to your company.

Determining the right type of opportunity helps in lead routing simplification to the right sales or service individual, reducing response time, and making sure that the opportunity falls under the right expert's hand. It also enables you to filter and group opportunities for better reporting, forecasting, and strategy planning.

For example:

  • Sales opportunities may be assigned to the business development team.
  • Support opportunities may be assigned to the technical service team.
  • Channel management or alliances opportunities could be sent to your partnerships team.

Getting to Opportunity Type:

Home > CRM > Settings > Opportunity Type

Opportunity Type creation

  1. Navigate to the Opportunity Type list, click on the menu and click the button New.
  2. Fill in the Name (i.e., Sales)
  3. Add a Description to more fully explain the type and to provide advice on when to apply it. For instance, "Apply this type to all new sales of products or services to customers."
  4. Save the record.

After defining, the Opportunity Type may be selected during creation or edit of opportunities. This allows ERPNext to classify opportunities, making it possible to generate easy reports targeted at specific types, calculate conversion rates by type, and allocate resources.
