Project Type

A Project Type in ERPNext is utilized to categorize and group projects according to their nature or objective so that organizations can pool similar types of projects together. The categorization helps in improving reporting when viewing several projects.

Some examples are:

  • Internal Projects (such as, infrastructure work, R&D)
  • External Projects (client deliverables, consultancy)

You can create as many special project types as your company needs, based on your industry, departments, or models of engagement. When viewing project reports or creating filtered views, a choice of Project Type makes it easier to navigate and compare.

This categorization is also utilized while creating Project Templates, in which the project type determines which of those templates are most applicable according to previous project structures. ERPNext v15 also maintains the flexibility and provisions linking Project Type fields with other reports for overall project analysis.

  3. Optionally include a Description to better explain the context or criteria for applying this type.
