Print Format Builder
You can quickly create a simple, custom Print Format by dragging and dropping data fields and adding your own text or HTML with the Print Format Builder. It has a user-friendly interface that doesn't require any coding knowledge, so even people who aren't tech-savvy can customise it.
The "Standard" Print Format is automatically made for each Doctype. It is a base format that can't be changed. To make any custom changes, you have to make or change other Print Formats.
To get to the Print Format Builder, go to:
Home > Settings > Print Format Builder
Or you can also get to it directly through a document.
1. How to Use the Print Format Builder
1.1 Through the menu navigation
- From the menu, go to the Print Format Builder.
- You can either change an existing print format or make a new one for a certain Document Type (Doctype), like an Item, Quotation, etc.
- In this part, we'll learn how to change a Print Format that already exists. See the next section for information on how to make a new format.
- Pick the Print Format you want to change.

- Pick the Doctype that the Print Format is made for.

- To change the format, click the Edit button to open the Print Format Builder UI.
- You can drag and drop fields from the left sidebar into the layout area in this interface. You can also move them around on the page as needed.
- Click on Save to make the changes you need to make.
1.2 Through a document
- Open the document (like a quote or an invoice) that you want to make a custom print format for.
- Click on the Printer icon or go to Menu > Print and then click on Customise... button.
- You need System Manager permission to change print formats, so keep that in mind.
- To add a new field:
- You can pull it from the left sidebar and drop it where you want it in your layout.
- To take away a field:
- Just pull it back into the fields sidebar.
- To change the layout of a section or an individual field, click the settings icon next to it.
- Click Save when you're done making changes.
- To add your own text or HTML content, click and drag the Custom HTML field (usually highlighted in dark colour) to the place in your layout where you want it to go.
- After that, click on Edit HTML to write and format your own content in HTML.
