Production and Material Planning
Production and material planning in ERPNext is a complete production, inventory and resource planning process. It also ensures that it is producing as per the demand projections and it uses the available resources efficiently.
It starts with the generation of Production Plans which can be generated on the basis of Sales Orders, by manual inputs or on the basis of expected demand. The production plans outline products to be manufactured, quantity of required materials and schedules. ERPNext has the facility of linking the production plans with Material Requests where the raw materials and subassemblies are ordered or reserved prior to the production.
ERPNext has the capability of supporting multi-level Bill of Materials (BOM) which enable the user to generate Work Orders both on the finished product and sub-assembly products. The needs of raw materials are estimated dynamically and their availability verified in the warehouses selected. Effective flow of work is guaranteed.
Work Orders are automatically updated with progress, raw material consumption (via backflushing or stock entries), and completed quantities, all of which reflect in real-time reports and dashboards. Material movement, scrap management, and labor tracking are integrated to provide a complete view of shop floor activities.
It entails the scheduling of production, material needs, and the maximization of resources to achieve productive targets effectively. ERPNext simplifies this by offering capacity planning tools, work order generation, and inventory level tracking.
With Capacity Planning enabled, ERPNext helps users determine whether existing workstations, equipment, and labor can fulfill the upcoming production demand. It factors in workstation calendars, holidays, time between operations, and available shift timings. If capacity is insufficient, it can guide users to reschedule production or allow overtime if enabled.
Material needs are determined from chosen BOMs, available stock, and existing production needs. The system then creates Material Requests for those that are short, which can be requisitioned as Purchase Orders or Stock Transfers. Planning may also consider subcontracted items and non-stock items based on configuration settings.
Warehouse-level planning is possible by selecting a default or specific warehouse, giving flexibility in deciding where to source or store production materials.
Through the centralisation of data and automated workflow, ERPNext helps businesses increase productivity, decrease lead times, lower costs, and overall increase efficiency in their production processes.
Every piece of material and manufacturing data is loaded to one system such as the job card performance, material usage, work order and warehouse inventory. This eliminates the use of scattered tracking tools thus allowing teams to co-work in real-time.
ERPNext also offers downloadable reports and dashboards that provide real-time visibility into production performance, pending work orders, quality checks, and available inventory. These facilitate proactive decision-making and speedy resolution of bottlenecks.
Finally, the Production and Material Planning system within ERPNext enables businesses to fulfill customer demand at the right time while ensuring cost control and operational integrity.
