Declaration of Employee Tax Exemption

  • Tax exemption means that an employee's income, property, or transactions are not subject to taxes that would normally be charged.

  • Employees can say how much of their taxable compensation they will be excluded from at the start of a Payroll Period. The Employee Tax Exemption Declaration form lets you choose the tax exemption category or sub-category, the amount of the tax exemption, and other information that is connected.

2. Subcategory for Employee Tax Exemption How to write an Employee Tax Exemption Declaration

To make a new Employee Tax Exemption Declaration:

  • Select New from the Employee Tax Exemption Declaration menu.

  • Choose the Exemption Category and the Exemption Sub Category.

  • Type in the Maximum Exemption Amount and the Declared Amount.

  • Save and send.

Declaration of Employee Tax Exemption

When Payroll calculates tax deductions, the Total Exemption Amount will not be included in the employee's annual taxable earnings.

Important: Employees can only send in one Employee Tax Exemption Declaration for each Payroll Period

3.1 Category of Employee Tax Exemption

Usually, tax-free compensation is only available for certain types of spending that the government or regulatory bodies have determined on. With Frappe HR, you may set up several groups that can be excused. For India, some examples of these include 80G, 80C, and B0CC.

You may set up the Employee Tax Exemption Category by navigating to Employee Tax and Benefits > Employee Tax Exemption Category.

3.2 Subcategory for Employee Tax Exemption

There could be multiple heads under each category that are eligible for exemptions. In India, for instance, subcategories under 80C could include life insurance premiums.

To set up the Employee Tax Exemption Category, navigate to Employee Tax and Benefits > Employee Tax Exemption Sub-Category.

3.3 HRA Exemption (Region: India)

  • The minimal amount of House Rent Allowance (HRA) that is not subject to taxes in India for the current fiscal year is

  • The real amount that the employer gives as the HRA.

  • Actual rent paid less 10% of the basic pay.

  • 50% of the base wage if the person lives in a metro city (40% if they don't).

  • Employees can also fill out the HRA Exemption as part of the Employee Tax Exemption Declaration. Frappe HR figures out how much of the HRA is tax-free and then figures out how much of the taxable income is tax-free.

  • Fill out the form with the Monthly House Rent and tick the box that says "Rented in Metro City" if it applies. The Annual and Monthly HRA Exemption will be figured up for you.

  • Once you send in the declaration, you can send in the proof of your tax exemption by clicking the Submit Proof option.

  • For the HRA exemption to work, the HRA component needs to be set up in the Company master under the HRA Settings section.
