Shift Assignment
Assignment of Shifts
1. Things you need to have
To effectively complete a Shift Assignment, the system needs already have the following:
Employee: Before assigning a shift, the employee record should be set up correctly with all the necessary personal, departmental, and designation information so that the mapping may be done correctly.
Type of Shift: The system should already know what type of shift it is (e.g., morning, night, rotational, or custom) so that it may be easily referenced when assigning shifts.

2. Making a Shift Assignment
Some companies just assign shifts to workers, while others let workers officially ask for a shift through the Shift Request function. In this situation, the employee fills out a Shift Request, which, once approved and submitted, instantly creates a Shift Assignment linked to that employee's record.
You can perform the following to make a Shift Assignment directly instead of going through the request process:
To make a new assignment record, click on New.
Pick the Employee from the list, and make sure their profile is up to date so that the links and reports are correct.
Choose the Shift Type from the list of choices. This will set the hours and regulations for how to work.
Set the Start Date for the assignment. If the shift is only for a certain amount of time, set the End Date as well to make the length obvious.
To maintain the record in the system, click Save. Then click Submit to start the assignment.
You can still mark the assignment as "inactive" after it has been filed if you don't need the employee for that shift anymore.
The Shift Assignment Calendar view lets you see and plan visually and compare the schedules of numerous employees. This makes it easier for managers to find overlaps, gaps, or coverage issues.
If an active shift type has a Shift Assignment with an End Date, the End Date will only apply during that time.
If there is no end date, the shift will be seen as ongoing or continuous.
People who are allowed to do so can amend the End Date and status (Active/Inactive) even after they have submitted it to reflect changes in operations or modifications to the schedule.

3. Characteristics
3.1 Allow for more than one shift assignment on the same day
The system can let one employee work more than one shift on the same day or not. In HR Settings, you can choose whether or not an employee can be given shifts that overlap or follow each other on the same day. This is helpful for companies that work in high-demand areas or for workers who have to work split shifts.
