Payroll Period
A Payroll Period is a predetermined time frame in which Employees are compensated for the work they do for the Company. Payroll periods are crucial to managing the payroll life cycle because they inform you when salaries are computed, processed, and paid.
Payroll Period assists you to define the appropriate Salary Structures, compute out taxes, and ensure that appropriate deductions are being made for a specific duration of time depending on the specified Income Tax Slab. Defining the correct Payroll Periods ensures you comply with local labor laws, allows you to compute taxes appropriately, and allows you to report employee wages appropriately.
You can create payroll periods for various payroll cycles, such as monthly, bi-monthly, or weekly, depending on the requirement of your business. Clearly defined payroll periods also account for leave adjustments, overtime, flexible benefits, and other earnings or deductions that the employees can receive within the period.
To access Payroll Period, follow these steps:Home > Human Resources > Payroll > Payroll Period
1. Creating a Pay Period
Go to the list of Payroll Periods and click on New.
Name the Payroll Period something different that normally has the month or period (e.g., "October 2025 Payroll").
Select the beginning and end dates for the payroll period. These dates give the period that is used for calculating and paying wages.
You may optionally include other details, like the Fiscal Year, Frequency, or exceptions and changes notes for the period.
To save the Payroll Period, click Save. After saving it, you can use it to prepare Salary Slips, Payroll Entries, and calculate the proper taxes and benefits.
